Southern Barbecue Candles:

Feeding Tennessee with the Help of Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee

Highland Rim Candles is all about taking care of our own—our neighbors, family, and friends. From Nashville city streets to the Smoky Mountains, we’re inspired by the beauty, resilience, and kind-hearted folks of Tennessee. And there’s no better example of kind-hearted folks than our friends over at Second Harvest of Middle Tennessee.

Did you know 14% of people in Tennessee are experiencing food insecurity? That’s 984,430 neighbors and friends who aren’t sure where their next meal will come from. Many of them are facing life’s challenges head-on, doing their best to provide for their families, but still needing the support of their community.

Just like true Tennesseans, when tough times came, the good people at Second Harvest of Middle Tennessee were ready with open hearts and helping hands:

Henry, a retiree from Wayne County, is getting by on a fixed income. “You work hard, save what you can, but money just doesn’t go as far as it used to,” he says. With the cost of groceries climbing, making ends meet has been rough. “The food from Second Harvest helps me save money, so I can pay my bills.”

Stephanie’s world turned upside down when she lost her job, and her husband began to have fainting spells from a heart condition and could no longer work. With finances strained, they found relief from Second Harvest in Rutherford County. “Thank you for blessing our family. Hopefully one day we will be able to bless another family like you have blessed us.”

Hannah, who volunteered at food banks as a kid, never imagined she’d need one. After a terrible accident, Hannah was left with a broken spine, a brain injury, $40,000 in medical bills—and no insurance.

“It’s too expensive,” she explains. “I can’t afford anything right now.” That’s why she’s so grateful for the Second Harvest Mobile Pantry in her neighborhood.

With the help of Second Harvest, Henry, Stephanie, Hannah have been able to get the nutritious meals they needed during their hardest times.

A Barbecue for the Whole Community

In honor of Second Harvest’s efforts to feed the whole neighborhood, we’ve created the “Southern Barbecue” scented candle. After all, nothing says feeding Tennessee quite like a backyard cookout that brings the whole block together.

Barbecues are how we show care for one another— we share homemade meals with our neighbors, while tossing a few cornhole bags, and enjoying good times.

By purchasing a Highland Rim “Southern Barbecue” candle, you’re helping feed your Tennessee neighbors.  A portion of every sale is donated directly to Second Harvest of Middle Tennessee, supporting their mission “to nourish and empower people so they can thrive”.
